Stefan is the founder and principal of SMB Law. He has extensive experience acting in a broad range of contentious matters including high profile high risk disputes, commissions of inquiry and insolvency matters. His practice has a particular focus on commercial and financial services industry clients.
​
Stefan is a pragmatic, delivery focused lawyer who demonstrates a real commitment to his clients. His range of experience, network and expertise ensures that he can provide a solution to the legal problems faced by his clients. He applies a commercial and strategic approach to litigating and protecting the rights of his clients.

He founded SMB Law after a successful career working in national and boutique law firms. He has experience in the United Kingdom, the USA, Queensland and New South Wales.

Acting for the lead plaintiff in large and highly complex representative proceedings in the Supreme Court of New South Wales against a major Australian mining company.

Acting for a senior union official in the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption, including supporting an application that the Commissioner recuse himself for apprehended bias.

Acting for a commercial trustee of two large commercial managed investment schemes in large and extremely complex Supreme Court proceedings involving a major Australian investment bank.

Acting for the Administrators of a well-known child care business in public examinations of its directors and officers and other relevant individuals.

Acting for the main person of interest in a public inquiry conducted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption regarding alleged corruption in the recruitment practices of a major University.

Acting for a senior council employee in a Public Inquiry into a local council conducted under the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW).

Acting for a liquor licensee in criminal proceedings brought against him in relation to alleged breaches of licence conditions and sections of the Liquor Act 2007 (NSW).
